Budget travelers dispel the myth that you can't afford a grand tour around the world. Last year, after a farewell Mexican dinner, my friend Barbara Green gave hugs goodbye to her friends in New York, got on a plane for Quito, Ecuador, and took off with plans for a months-long vacation.
